It always amazes me to read American History and find so much of it linked to our Baptist Forefathers.
Here are a couple of links with more information on John Leland and the Jefferson Cheese.
When I'm not sure what to say to praise God, I can always declare this statement. God IS Good. It's true and says it all. I like the word "IS" it is a state of being verb. It's a present tense and a verb is action. Meaning currently Good and actively Good. If I say God was good or will be good, then I am saying his goodness is finite. But to say He IS Good, that is infinitive. Never ending!

A friend of mine recently shared some of her sour dough starter with me. I have wanted to try starters before but most of what I came across, years ago, was to buy the yeast to make your starter.

Her starter consisted of 1/4 flour

(She may have used Coconut flour, I forgot to ask, but I used King Arthur Whole Wheat)

1/4 Spring Water or boiled tap water

(don't want the chlorine killing things off)

Add this every day for 7 days

Some say refrigerate after a certain period of time. I say why? Refridgeration has not always been available to the average household.

So I have left mine out. A lot of the research I've done suggest if you refrigerate to let it get started really well and have "proved" it successful.

This is a 3 week old starter:

Yes, it's small. I haven't been "feeding" it so it has gone dormant.
This is fine (it is suggested to feed it a least once a week).
I still have a few questions about how long it needs to be active before using.

On a side note:

A sour dough starter is not alcoholic unless it has sugar to feed on

and is in an anaerobic (without oxygen) state.

I used a coffee filter for a "lid" to keep stuff from falling in, but allow it to "breath"

and get the natural occuring airborne yeast.

I'm pretty excited about it. So far I've only made pizza crust with it. I need to feed consistantly until it's active again and I'm going to try a regular loaf of sour dough bread.

Then ~ onto Jewish Rye!!

I believe all but one of the teens where able to come out. We started off with a game. I do not remember what the name of it was, my husband remembered if from his years at camp. The object was to thy to get the keys from under the blinded folded persons chair and if they whacked you, you were out. It was pretty hilarious when Greg decided to put the young married couple (Jess and Andrew - they help us out) back to back. Greg said he noticed in this game that the women where more vicious. Jess and I agreed that it's just natural defense coming out, lol. Kind of like when you see the little old lady betting a man to death with her purse! HA!HA!HA! Well the guys were definitely more tactical about it :).

Aside from all the fun, we also had a great lesson from the bible. We started out in Psalm 139: 1-12, then we flipped over to 1 Samuel 15:1-26 He pointed out in vs. 20 how Saul said "..Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites." My husband put it this way... (As Saul) "I have obeyed God, just ask Agag yourself, he's right here." He made several great points about these passages. The teens are required to know Psalm 139 when we meet again at the end of the month.

I guess I'll start with a sermon I heard a couple of days ago by Daniel Buchanan. You can find it here... Doubt: The Visitor of Great Men. It really spoke to me when I heard it. I often listen to New Beginnings website when I'm sewing or weaving.

Last night we were able to go to Highland Baptist Church in Vass, NC. Bro. Richard Hughes preached the sermon. He wrote a book when he was teaching for Herald Sightler called "An English Grammar for the Study of Scripture" . I'm looking forward to using that with the kids.

Also, the girls and I are trying to get our little shop going. We are mainly wanting to help with the cost of our guys going on the Baptist Heritage Revival Society Tour as well as some other things that we are hoping to do this year.

Most of all I am excited about my son preaching. He got to preach again this past Wednesday with the other preachers at church. I don't even know if I could explain the blessing that it is to me. God's blessed me with some terrific men in my life.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6961200289491494400.post-23327921429011206362012-10-29T18:44:00.000-05:002012-10-29T18:44:13.636-05:00To Write or Not To Write...that is the question I've been asking myself.

I have been looking up independent pattern companies just to see what's out there and maybe pick up tips from the designer's blog. One of the companies I came cross is a christian one with modern designs and prints. Their stuff was okay. I really like the long pleated skirt they offered. My point to this is to, well... say a few words on modesty.

First, I thought about creating modest patterns. Then I realized that, you can find modest patterns out there. The #1 issue is wheather your a size 10 trying to fit in a size 8 (that would most likely be a size 14 and 12 in a pattern). I have to tell almost everyone I sew for, to give me their REAL measurements. Not the ones they wish the tape measure was saying they were.

Second, No, you don't have to be frumpy and unattractive. However, if you are being attractive, what are you attracting to? A man shouldn't have to be embarrassed (yes, I said embarrassed) to look at you. And vise versa. I have been embarrassed to look at some men because something they wore caused my attention to be drawn to things it shouldn't be and that IS embarrassing. Shamefaced http://www.thefreedictionary.com/shamefaced

Third, which should be listed first. Where is The Spirit? The Holy Spirit, to convict you when you are unsure. Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." I choose this verse to say, listen to the Lord in these matters, exalt him in obedience! exalt him with respect and dignity!

Fourth, no one is perfect and we all contend with the flesh. At times we think well this really isn't that bad. I'm just being too picky. Ex., if my skirts are at my knees then they will go a little shorter. So the higher my standard (or in this case the lower :), the better off I am. As a rule of thumb my girls and I wear our skirts/dresses to our ankles. Isaiah 47:2 "Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man." http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/leg

Also, a word on beauty...

I love my husband dearly and he tells me the most ridiculous things about myself, which I would love to repeat, but it might embarrass him. So I'll just tell you a few truths drawn from his words.

1. Godly men like godly women, not worldly looking women. I Timothy 2:9
2. A husband finds his wife attractive or he wouldn't have married her.
3. Attitude matters more than physical beauty (see #1 & #2). I Timothy 2:10
4. Don't worry about those stretch marks and C-section scars! A husband works and gets all kinds of
scars, we find those attractive don't we? Women have babies and get all kinds of scars, lol.
5. A wife is to be a help meet ( that is help: to aid; to assist; ect., meet: fit; suitable; proper), not a bitter,
complaining woman. Yikes! But truth.
6. Hollywood has no idea what real beauty is wheather inward or outward.

* All scripture quotes are form the King James Bible - "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timorthy 3:16 & 17

This is by no means an all inclusive study. It is food for thought for the christian, based on biblical principles.

Thank you for reading my thoughts :).
It was kicked off with Bro. David Harrison on a Saturday and Sunday. Bro. Seth Buchanan out of NBMBC. The Lord really helped several of us and two were saved. During the last night of meeting the Lord had called my son to preach. He announced it publicly that Sunday. Amen!! Hallelujah!! Below is his first sermon.

Our oldest Graduated June 30th.

We are very thankful to our church family for coming out.

There were other homeschooler's who were promoted this year that were recognized as well.

We were very excited about seeing our first graduate. There's nothing like teaching your children to read and write. Watching them take off and enjoy learning without force, but with a desire. It is a great blessing to have self learners. I can't say that it was me that instilled this in them, but the Lord.
We have been blessed.

Will be posting a pic on my craft blog, as soon as I get a few from Ang :). Busy is the norm, and thankfully. I spent my days growing up being bored and in my own little world. It's nice to be so busy you'd love to take a break, lol.

There is a saying I heard a few years after being saved that I really like, "My worst day with Christ is better than my best day without Christ". Sometimes when I'm going though trials and tribulations I don't always feel this way, but when I look back at where I was and what he bought, and brought me from I can say this statement with truth.

About 8 or 9 years ago my husband was given a tape of Missionary Sonny Dix preaching. It was called "All I have left is praise!". What an amazing sermon! What else do I have to offer a Righteous and Thrice Holy God when my righteousness is as filthy rags?

We just had Bro. Maynard come preach with us this past Sunday. He preached on the home. It was tremendous and truthful. I evening service went especially well, he preached somethings I needed to hear. It's always interesting how a preacher can be focusing in one area and God hits you in another.

The middle of March we'll be having the Alexander's with us again for our Missions Revival. I like that, missions revival instead of conference. Our hearts need to be revived to do the work the Lord has called us to.
When we were in Lousiana our daughter had a great piano teacher (for FREE :). However, we knew we wouldn't be there forever so I hunted around for something that would help her along. She wasn't making a career of piano playing :) so we just wanted something that would enhance her playing at church.

I came across Greg Howlett . We both loved his stuff. He did mention in his CD's about piano players getting big heads (my words) and not having one, lol. We bought the Theory for Church Pianist. It is very challenging!

He even offers online classes here.
Paymnet plans offered for orders of $80.00 or more! (All DVD courses start @ $99)
I was thinking about the purpose of this site. I was reminded of when the Bro. Clark's Girls Home came and sang at our church. One song they sang had these words "..here I raise my hands to Jesus.." it was to the tune "Come Thou Fount".

I had always loved that song but it was the first time I realized that I am a stone of rememberance, my life, my testamony! Some time ago I had realized that raising of hands(I Timothy 2:8) is to testify of His Holiness, not my own. My uplifted hand testifying of the work God has done in my own life and saying He is worthy to be praised!

(John 15:15 - "Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.") God is good!

Such tremendous preaching it is hard to convey it all here. Our preacher truly has the touch of God on him. The preachers that come through are excellent men of God as well. We had Bro. Ted Alexander and Bro. Matt McPhilllips from Port Huron, MI just last night. They were traveling the route to the upcoming Baptist History Revival Tour. It was encouraging. About serving God because he loves us and has done so much for us. Our service should show love back, a selfless love. Also we should have a pure love for the brethren. <span style="color: blue; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:" I Peter 1:22. Not a false love!, but pure! There was just so much to both messages!

We will be having our Home Coming this Sunday. Our preacher's preacher Bro. Perry and Ronnie Smith (Missionary to Ireland) will be preaching the services. It's always good and we are looking forward to it.

I have been learning to weave and came across a little video with a women making a brightly colored rainbow throw blanket. My first thought was EEW! But as I looked at it more the colors were just amazing. It got me to thinking about the rainbow in Genesis. <span style="color: blue; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you: And with every living creature that is with you of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: and I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth." Genesis 9:8-17
Wow, in typing this a thought occurred to me to which I have no answer, Why would God make this covenant? It's not like Noah or we who have come after have done God some great service. Maybe I do know the answer "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loves us, Even when we were dead in sins.." Eph. 2:4-5a These verses are talking about salvation, but the same applies...His Great Love!

Revelation 4:3 "And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald." God's complete promise! What God promises comes to pass, He is faithful!!

I can't decide which is more exciting, the covenant because of His Great Love or the fulfilled promise.

Oh, and don't stop at vs. 3 in Rev. keep reading, "...Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6961200289491494400.post-23169731715258028772011-05-03T12:10:00.009-05:002014-02-04T13:39:05.947-06:00Baptist Heritage Revival Society

During the 2011 Baptist Heritage Revival Tour it was purposed to start a ministry dedicated to finding and preserving Baptist landmarks.
