Pet Peeve or Biblical Truth

I was looking through a quilting catalog today and came across a beautiful design. You can see it at PineNeedles.com . Here's the problem, the quilt says Faith, Hope and.... Love! The Bible says Charity! I Corinthians 13:13 "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity."

Charity is love in action. Many people say they love the Lord, but few show charity to him. This verse is important! This goes with...

James 2:20 "But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?"

James 2:26 "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

My devotion for today.

I came across these verses in my reading...

"And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save
Peter,
and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept,
and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they
laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and
took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came
again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give
her meat." Luke 8:51-55

Something to ponder...

"they laughed him to scorn" - this is Christ's disciples along with the parents scorning Jesus. Scorning means contempt or utter disdain. Wow, what a thought!

"he put them all out," - Again what a thought that Jesus had to make them leave in order to do His work. His Apostles, not unbelievers.

Proverbs 21:31

"The horse is prepared against the day of battle:
but safety is of the LORD."

This verse really spoke to me this morning. We can plan things to a "T", but we should trust the LORD for the outcome.

"As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried:
he is a buckler to all those that trust in him."
Psalm 18:30

Update

Tomorrow we leave for San Antonio. Greg will be having the Stimulator put back in. Please pray for everything to go well and that it will not get infected again.

In doing devotions we came across a couple of verses we are having the kids memorize...

Psalm 12:6 & 7

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver
tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt
preserve them from this generation for ever.

I'm Back, Again & A Sermon Every Christian Should Hear

After having tons of trouble with our internet, we finally have it fixed for the last time (I hope).

Greg and I were listening to an amazing sermon today. It spoke to our hearts and hope it does to yours as well.

This is Audio only. The sermon is The Dangers of Backsliding by Robert Hoyle, Pastor of Little River Baptist Church in Spring Lake, NC just out side of Ft. Bragg.

Psalm 107:8 "Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!"

*I tried loading it throught the video option but was having trouble. Here is the link to their sermon page (it's the first one)... "The Dangers of Backsliding"

Quote by Daniel Webster

The Bible

"I believe that the Bible is to be understood and received in the plain and obvious meaning of its passages; for I cannot persuade myself that a book intended for the instruction and conversion of the whole world should cover its true meaning in any such mystery and doubt that none but critics and philosophers can discover it."

Mom of 9's Place

I wanted to mention a good article @ Mom of 9's Place. It's called Mothers! Prepare Your Children! The section about mom being the law giver was really helpful. To many times we look to Dad to be the law giver when he is the enforcer.

Charity

"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not;
charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own,
is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things,
hopeth all things, endureth all things."
I Corinthians 13:4-7

#1 god we put before the God is...

SELF!
We had a missionary from Rock of Ages preach Sunday morning. He made the above statement and I thought it was the best representation of the 1st Commandment I have heard.
My husband preached that night on "The Love of God".
He mentioned that "quicken" in verse one means "made alive".
In vs. 4 is two of his favorite words, "But God,..." this follows Paul reminding us of what we were and were we came from.
I thought the two messages ties in well together. Romans 13:8-10 "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Without the love of God we only love ourselves.
I regret not taking better notes although I was drawn into the preaching and thinking about the love of God in my life and how I show it (or the lack thereof) to others. Both messages are something that has been on my heart. People need love, but we are to selfish to give it.

Peace

What everyone searches for, but few find.
"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep you hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Being a Chrisitan

Our Pastor and one of our Missionaries has said something in preaching that I really like.
Your not a Christian because you say you are, but if others say you are.
"And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch."
Acts 11:26

The Fruit of the Spirit

Galations 5:22

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance : against such there is no law."

You know what I like about the fruit of the Spirit? That there is no law reguarding them. God does not say "Don't be to kind or gentle." We are free to love and have peace as much as we would like. You can't love your children or neighbor to much.

God is good and it's only by the Blood of the Lamb that we can have the freedom to indulge in the fruit not being bond by sin which hate's, envey's and strife's.

Two Baskets of Figs

No, I don't have two baskets of figs, lol. I was reading Jeremiah Chapter 24 in my devotions this morning.

The Lord used these baskets of figs to help Jeremiah understand why God choose to lead some of Israel captive and some stayed. Verses 5-7 says... "Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good. For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up. And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God; for they shall return unto me with their whole heart."

I really don't want to elaborate on these verses and get something wrong, since I have not really studied it out. It just blessed me to see how God works.

Late Night Post

I told Jessica that I would post sometime today so I have to keep my word :o).

My husband gave me an early Anniversary gift. He had to tell me about it, of course, because he had to send my Bible off. He had it rebound @ Hidden House Publishers. These pictures do not do it justice. I would never have had my Bible rebound. I would have read it till it fell apart on me. He had actually bought this bible for me a few years ago @ Gullion's Christian Supply in Statesville, North Carolina. We were at a revival meeting near there on our Anniversary. It's done in Lambs skin and it feels sooo nice! What better gift than God's Word and then the preservation of it?

Now what to get him?

The Past

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 3:13 & 14

I had planned on leaving my Memorial Day Post until Friday, but I felt compelled to post these verses instead. Whether those things are hurt feelings or regrets we have to put them behind us so that we may focus on the Lord and the work he wants us to do.

Born Again

Being born again came up in our Pastor's preaching Sunday. He said the simplest thing, that a man is only born once physically and only once spiritually. I know this, but have had conversations with people who think that they need to get saved over and over again. The spiritual is like the physical in that it only happens once!

I know there are lots of points point out on this but, I love simplicity. Just like with the KJB being the word of God. people want to question it, but I believe in a perfect, holy God who is able to preserve His Word without confusing the people. Satan is the author of confusion.

Here is two verses from John about being born again.

John 3:4-5 "Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of the water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

Worth Every Penny

Pr 23:23 "Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding."
